The Art of Connection

I believe a lot of us have lost the art of true connection.

Growing up, one of my favourite things was listening to the stories the adults in my family told to each other. The way they would relay, in great detail, all of the wild memories. Sometimes I would close my eyes and allow their stories to paint a picture.

Suddenly, I would be transported back in time with them, out on the country roads near the train bridge. It was as if I was a fly on the wall, watching them all laugh and play together.

When I moved to Australia years later, again I was struck by how much I appreciated the authentic conversations. The stories the people I met would tell me about their lives, where they grew up, what it was like for them- I was enthralled.

It felt like discovering treasure- learning about people, how they got to the point they are at now on their journey and the experiences that led them to this moment. It was also such a beautiful way to travel in my mind- to see places I could only dream of, learning about the deep, rich cultures in lands that feel so far away and so energetically close at the same time. For me, there is no greater honour than someone letting their guards down and sharing from the depths of their heart. Allowing me to glimpse their journey and more of who they are at their core.

Surface conversations have never been my thing- in fact, I find them painful.

If we aren't painting beautiful pictures through the way we connect, what are we even doing?

Everyone deserves to be seen, held & witnessed by safe people throughout their life.
